Responding to Teacher Accusation of Unauthorized AI Use
If you used AI on an assignment and a teacher questions unauthorized use, be honest and use this as a learning opportunity. Generative AI is a new phenomenon in academics and everyone is working to be accustomed to appropriate use in schools. Your teacher may give you a 0 on the assignment or offer an opportunity to re-do the assignment for full or partial credit.
If you did not use AI in an unauthorized manner in an assignment and a teacher is suggesting that you did, you can consider the following steps:
-
Explain your process for completing the assignment
-
Provide access for the teacher to review your review/edit history on the document
-
Offer to verbally explain the content of your assignment to show that you understand it
-
Request that SSHS Administration review evidence to make a determination
